Best Buy Awards More Than $1 Million to 2012 Scholarship Program Winners

MINNEAPOLIS, May 23, 2012 – Best Buy Co., Inc. (NYSE:BBY) today announced the 2012 Best Buy Scholarship Program winners, each of whom will receive a $1,000 scholarship for demonstrating excellence in academic achievements, volunteer efforts and work experience. This year, scholarships will be awarded to 1,106 students in grades 9-12, living in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, who plan to enter a full-time undergraduate course of study upon high school graduation. Best Buy and Best Buy Children’s Foundation are focused on opportunities to help teen students prepare for a brighter future with dollars for college tuition.

“Best Buy is honored to help teens by giving them access to educational opportunities that will positively impact their lives and communities,” said Susan Bass Roberts, director of Community Relations, Best Buy.

Since the inception of its scholarship program in 1999, Best Buy has provided nearly $20.7 million in scholarship funds to help 16,545 students attend college. The program recently expanded eligibility to include students in grades 9-12.  Nearly 165,000 students registered for this year’s scholarships.
