Best Buy to Host Nintendo World Championship Qualifiers

Eight stores across the U.S. are the exclusive place to compete for a chance to play in the finals in New York City

Buckle up, Nintendo fans, the Nintendo World Championships are back. And the only place to qualify is at eight select U.S. Best Buy stores (full list below).

When we last hosted the qualifying events in 2015, hundreds of fans showed up to each store to compete.

Between Aug. 19 and Sept. 10, the eight stores will host qualifying rounds of the Nintendo World Championships. Competitors will compete for the best time trial in Mario Kart 7 on the Nintendo 3DS. Two winners from each store – one 12-years-old or younger, one 13-years-old or older – will move on to the finals in New York City on Oct. 7.

These stores will also be one of the first places for gaming fans to demo two of the most anticipated new titles: Super Mario Odyssey on the Nintendo Switch and Metroid: Samus Returns on the Nintendo 3DS. Both launch later this fall.

If you can’t make it to a participating store, follow along on social media as the YouTube-famous Josh Darnit family road trips to select locations.
