MINNEAPOLIS, August 1, 2011 – Best Buy Co., Inc. (NYSE:BBY), a leading retailer of consumer technology, praised the introduction of the Main Street Fairness Act (S.F. 1452) that allows states the ability to require all retailers – including remote sellers – to collect sales taxes due.

The Durbin bill grants states with simplified sales tax codes the authority to apply sales tax collection obligations fairly to all sellers. Best Buy currently collects and remits sales taxes from consumers in all states that impose one, including sales made in store, by phone or online on www.bestbuy.com

(NYSE:BBY), a leading retailer of consumer technology, today praised Governor Pat Quinn for signing the “Main Street Fairness Act” which will help the state’s retail merchants compete on a level playing field with online-only retailers, and help maintain and grow retail jobs in Illinois.

The legislation requires online-only retailers with an Illinois presence through affiliates to collect and remit sales taxes due from consumers that traditional brick-and-mortar stores already collect. Best Buy makes significant investments in property, payroll and philanthropy in Illinois communities.

Best Buy is aware of the uncertainty you are facing in this current economic environment. We know that some companies are reviewing their affiliate programs as activity increases in specific states considering e-fairness legislation. This legislation requires online-only retailers who utilize affiliates to collect sales tax due on purchases by residents in those states.
