Best Buy Leaders Visit St. Jude Patients, Bring $10.2 Million in Customer Donations

The recent St. Jude Thanks and Giving® campaign at Best Buy was the most successful one yet, but it’s the faces behind the cause that really matter. And this week, a group of Best Buy store general managers (GMs) got to see those faces, in person, at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®.

The GMs were from the stores that led the company in dollars donated or the percentage of transactions with a donation attached. As recognition for their fundraising, the leaders got to tour the hospital in Memphis and meet with patients and families.

For the past decade, Best Buy has collected more than $160 million in donations for the annual St. Jude Thanks and Giving® campaign benefitting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®. We couldn’t do it without the continued generosity of our employees, customers and communities.  

This holiday season was no exception. Our employees and customers went above and beyond, raising over $15 million at Best Buy store registers, online at BestBuy.com, on our app, during in-home service visits, and more. Since 2013, our communities have stepped up to support the children at St.

Best Buy joins St. Jude for 10th year to fight childhood cancer

For the 10th holiday season in a row, Best Buy is joining the fight against childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases as part of the St. Jude Thanks and Giving® campaign.  

Starting this month, we’re asking our customers to consider giving to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® when making purchases in stores or online. Every dollar donated will not only help with research, but also ensure families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food.

Best Buy customers donate $7.5 million to support Teen Tech Centers

We’ve always known Best Buy customers are the best. Now we have proof – over the last 5 months, Best Buy customers stepped up and contributed more than $7.5 million to the Best Buy Foundation in support of Best Buy Teen Tech Centers®. 

Between May 1 and Oct. 1, customers contributed in stores and online to help continue the expansion of the Teen Tech Center network, including programming for career and post-secondary transitions for teens from disinvested communities.  

“It is inspiring to see our customers show up in a big way year after year to support this important cause,” said Andrea Wood, Best Buy’s vice president of social impact.

Paying it forward: How one Best Buy Employee helped bring joy to her community this holiday season

Shatae Belajac has always been involved in her community. An Assistant Sales Manager out of Pittsburgh, PA, Belajac is no stranger to doing community outreach through Best Buy. She has worked with Make-A-Wish Foundation, and has also been a St. Jude ambassador for the past six years, sharing stories and keeping her district updated on all their efforts.

So, when she heard about University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), a local hospital whose pediatric burn unit usually does not get toy donations for their patients – she sprung right into action.

Treatments invented at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital have helped push the childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since the hospital opened nearly 60 years ago. That astounding fact is just one of the many reasons Best Buy is welcoming back the Thanks and Giving® campaign this year.

The annual holiday campaign returns to Best Buy on Oct. 10, and we’re asking our employees and customers to come together to support children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

Best Buy customers contribute $5.5M to support Teen Tech Centers

As part of Best Buy’s longstanding commitment to building brighter futures for teens through tech, we recently invited our customers to join us in that work — and, wow, did they ever deliver.

Between July 11 and Oct. 2, customers contributed more than $5.5 million to help support the Best Buy Teen Tech Center program. The campaign sought to educate customers about this initiative and allowed them to make a tax-deductible donation when making a purchase, including at a Best Buy store, BestBuy.com

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed many aspects of our lives, but one thing that hasn’t changed is the commitment our employees and customers have shown to help St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® in its mission to treat the toughest childhood cancers and pediatric diseases.

This year, we raised more than $22.4 million in stores and online during the holiday season, making Best Buy the largest corporate donor ever for the annual St. Jude Thanks and Giving® campaign. That’s on the heels of a record-breaking campaign last year, when we collected more than $22.5 million in donations — the most money brought in by a single partner in a given year.

Best Buy, community came together during record-breaking disaster season

Amanda Bergeron had been an assistant store manager just two weeks when Hurricane Laura struck the Gulf Coast in August, destroying her store in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Several employees were displaced from their homes as the Category 4 storm knocked out power and much of the city’s water. The store was rebuilt from the ground up — an endeavor that took nearly two months.

Then, just weeks after the store’s grand reopening the first weekend of October, it was closed again in preparation for Hurricane Zeta.
