17 Jun: ‘Smart, driven and curious’: Best Buy welcomes 2022 summer interns

When Jennifer Salinas joined Best Buy as a seasonal store employee in October 2018, she never imagined she’d someday be working for the corporate office.

Over the past few years, Jennifer has gone from cashier to sales advisor to a leadership role as a supervisor at a store in suburban Chicago. The college senior has enjoyed that journey but was prepared to leave the company to pursue an internship this summer.

Thankfully, she didn’t have to because her manager pointed her to an internship within the company.

From an early age, Heath Garcia knew he wanted to serve his country.

It started during visits to his mom’s family in Missouri. His grandfather and his seven brothers had all been in the military, serving in World War II and Korea.

“I was fascinated by the stories he told and in awe of what my grandfather used to do,” Heath said. “I wanted to carry on that tradition.”

He joined the Army at 19 years old and served for seven years.

04 Nov: For this Best Buy leader, Diwali is an opportunity to share his culture, community

For Manpreet Singh, the Queens borough of New York City has always been home. In fact, he still lives in the same neighborhood as the small basement apartment where he grew up with his parents and two younger siblings.

So, it was the highlight of his career when Best Buy recently named him the senior omnichannel general manager for the Queens market. In that role, he oversees three local stores and more than 400 employees.

“It’s a proud thing for me.

It is celebrated every year on Oct. 11, marking the anniversary of the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights in 1987. First started in the U.S., it’s now recognized in many countries around the world.

We talked to several members of Best Buy’s Pride Employee Resource Group to learn more about what Coming Out Day means to them.

Like many people, Beverly and Ted Minda found themselves reflecting on their priorities amid the pandemic.

The Mindas — both general managers at Best Buy stores near Philadelphia — have been married since 2008 and had been trying for years to start a family. But they struggled with infertility and ended up putting their plans on hold as they got busy with their careers.

“We’ve wanted kids forever,” Beverly said. “When COVID happened, this moment hit us where everybody else was at home and talking about trying to balance kids and work.

31 May: Memorial Day has a deeper meaning for this Best Buy manager

For many Americans, Memorial Day is a day for picnics and backyard cookouts with friends and family. But it means a whole lot more to Ralph Gonzalez-Viau.

The Best Buy general manager spent four years in the Army when he was a young man. He served most of that time as a casket bearer at Arlington National Cemetery, where he participated in more than 100 funerals for fallen soldiers and decorated veterans.

“I remember seeing veterans come to the funerals because their friends and brethren fell, and they didn’t want them to be forgotten,” he said.

28 May: How Best Buy is investing in our employees’ mental health

Best Buy has long focused on providing mental health resources to support our employees, and those efforts have only increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the past year, we have increased our investment in this area by introducing new benefits and expanding existing ones. It’s a big commitment for us year-round, not just during Mental Health Awareness Month in May.

Mental health is an integral piece of our focus on our employees’ overall well-being — physical, mental, financial and work/life — as we work toward our goal of being one of the best employers in the U.S.
