Today in Washington D.C., President Barack Obama recognized Best Buy and 300 other companies for supporting best practices for recruiting and hiring the long-term unemployed.
As of Jan. 31, 2014, “unemployment status” will be added to Best Buy’s Equal Employment Opportunity statement – found on the recruitment site – as Best Buy does not discriminate against job seekers who are unemployed.
Recently conducted research shows employers are less likely to consider candidates who have been out of work six months or more.
This effort is part of an ongoing national debate over the extension of expired unemployment insurance benefits to 1.6 million Americans. The Senate is expected to vote again next week on a three-month extension of unemployment assistance.
