Best Buy Releases Chemical Management Statement; Commits to Reduce Chemicals

Best Buy is committed to positively impacting the world by focusing our work on three areas: our communities, our environment and our people. Properly managing of the use of chemicals is essential to safeguarding each of these three areas, which is why we are refreshing our chemical management program.

Today, we released a chemical management corporate statement, which outlines our roadmap to reduce the use of chemicals, phase out chemicals of concern and improve the general management of chemicals.

Our efforts focus on where we can make the greatest impact:

  • Within our retail and corporate operations, we look for opportunities to reduce the use of chemicals. Whenever possible, we work to transition to safer alternatives, with a preference for EPA Safer Choice chemicals.
  • For our private label products, we are launching a Restricted Substance List (RSL) for the products and the factories. The RSL specifies chemicals restricted based upon regulations or known hazards.
  • We partner with our branded vendors by sharing resources, supporting greater awareness and alignment within the industry on voluntary actions to manage chemicals.
  • Through our recycling program, we partner with the most qualified recyclers and hold them to the highest industry standards to ensure that chemical risks are managed properly.

Collaborating with our peers and stakeholders is key to improving chemical management for the whole industry. Therefore, we will continue to participate in chemical related work groups with organizations such as the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition and the Green Chemistry and Commerce Council.
