Best Buy Responds to Oklahoma Tornado Tragedy

MINNEAPOLIS – May 22, 2013: The men and women of Best Buy offer their condolences to those who had their lives impacted by the recent tornadoes in Oklahoma. We are working on several ways to support the community and our employees.

How Best Buy is helping:

Best Buy is working to help individuals stay in contact with their family and friends during this difficult time.

We have partnered with Verizon Wireless and AT&T to place charging stations in the parking lot of our store at 2700 S Service Rd.,(I-35 and SW 19th St.) in Moore, Okla. The charging stations allow residents who remain without power to charge their devices and use them as they work to return to normalcy.

In addition, Best Buy is donating products and Geek Squad services to shelters and schools in the Moore area. Local Best Buy employees are currently assessing urgent technology and service needs, and items such as computers, and mobile wireless hot spots will be set up in shelters.

Employee assistance:

Our district staff in Oklahoma is working to reach every one of our full- and part-time Blue Shirts and Geek Squad Agents who live or work in the affected areas. We have a small number of employees who lost their homes in the storm and we have made contact with all of our employees in Moore and the Oklahoma City area.

We are providing support to our employees through our existing employee assistance programs. We will have counselors onsite for employees on Friday and Saturday.

In addition, the Schulze Family Fund is accepting disaster assistance applications from our full- and part-time employees. Our more than 165,000 corporate employees and store employees in other parts of the country will have the opportunity to donate to disaster relief and the Schulze Family Fund.

Best Buy stores:

The Best Buy store in Moore reopened on Wednesday. The store did not suffer any damage of note. None of our other stores in the Oklahoma City area were affected by the tornadoes.
