16 Apr: Video: Best Buy and HP are Closing the Loop on Printers

We’ve teamed up with HP to take recycling one step further — by creating new printers made of plastic from old printers and other electronics from our recycling program. It’s called closed-loop recycling.

We’re excited to announce that the HP ENVY 6255, 7155 and 7855 now contain even more recycled plastic (more than 20 percent by weight). Watch this video to learn more.

11 Jan: Best Buy Honored for E-Cycling at CES 2018

CES is where the tech world gathers every year to see the newest and coolest technology. It’s also where environmental leadership in the industry is celebrated.

On Thursday, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) honored Best Buy with a Silver Tier Award in the Sustainable Materials Management Electronics Challenge. Winners were chosen based on their electronics recycling programs and use of third-party certified recyclers whose practices meet strict environmental standards. This is the fourth consecutive year we have been recognized for e-waste recycling by the EPA.

Climate change is a global issue that will only be solved through collective efforts. Best Buy is focused on reducing our own carbon impact, and helping our customers use less energy as well. Here are some of the ways we contribute to this effort:

We are on track to exceed our science-based goal of reducing our carbon emissions 45 percent by 2020 (over a 2009 baseline).
- We optimize our store energy usage by automating the lighting, heating and air conditioning.
- We transitioned our Geek Squad car fleet to the hybrid Toyota Prius c, reducing fuel usage.

Before you bring in your items for recycling, check to see if your tech still has value with our Trade-In Calculator. Depending on the item, Best Buy might give you a gift card for your used tech, which will then be re-sold giving the product a new life.

On Saturday, millions of people around the world will celebrate Earth Day, bringing added awareness to efforts to protect our planet. But that’s a year-round focus for Laura Bishop, Best Buy’s chief corporate responsibility and sustainability officer, and her team.

Laura joined Best Buy in 2003 to help launch the company’s government relations team, a role in which she helped shape environmental recycling laws across the country.
