Last week, a group of teens in Minneapolis had the opportunity to visit with Minnesota Vikings players and staff at a local Best Buy Teen Tech Center. Not to talk about the latest game, but to hear how technology is used on and off the field.

Engineer. Scientist. Manager. Intern. Vice president. These are just a few of the many roles at the forefront of our tech transformation.

But to us, these leaders are better known as Linda, Naomi, Melissa, Faiza and Meghan.

While most of these women experienced being the first or only woman on a team at some point in their careers, they’re now helping drive change in the field of technology — through their groundbreaking technology work and a shared passion for mentoring young women interested in the field.

03 May: The One Thing Saving This Mom’s Sanity? Technology

Parenting books? Yoga? Coffee and a cozy blanket? They all sound great, but they’re not how I, as a mom of three, keep it together while trying to keep it all together.

In the marathon-and-sprint circuit of parenting, technology is the one thing saving my sanity amid a calendar packed with work, school, sports, volunteering, friend time and family time.

24 Oct: Geek Squad Technology Hub Opens at Minnesota High School

Geek Squad is going back to school with a purpose in suburban Minneapolis.

The first-ever Geek Squad Technology Hub opened this week at Edina High School, and it will be staffed by an Agent for four hours each week who will triage devices, analyze tech problems and educate teachers and students about technology.

“Most of the youngsters in this building have grown up with technology, so they know how it works,” said Butch Cavello, a Geek Squad vice president. “What we want to do is enhance that experience to ensure they are getting the most out of their tech, and maybe they’ll teach us a thing or two.

A few weeks ago, I announced my new collection of accessories for smartphones, tablets and laptops exclusively for Best Buy. I’m excited to share they have now arrived in stores!

So how did this partnership come to be? No one knows technology and the accessories you need for it like Best Buy, and I know how tricky it can be to find accessories that are both fashionable and functional. So it made sense for us to collaborate.

Several families, with help from Best Buy employees, were trained on basic computer skills and went home with something they didn’t have before – Internet connectivity and a computer.

Best Buy partnered with OurCycle LA, a City of Los Angeles digital inclusion pilot program geared at providing free refurbished computers and training to low-income families in Los Angeles.
