Best Buy is proud to be named to the 2021 JUST 100 list, which recognizes companies for doing right by all stakeholders.
This is our first time on the prestigious list. We climbed more than 200 spots to earn the No. 25 ranking.
“Our company’s purpose is to enrich lives through technology, and to bring this to life we know our employees need to feel supported and empowered, especially given the challenges we have all faced this year,” Best Buy CEO Corie Barry said. “By doing so, we are in a stronger position to positively impact all who we serve, including customers, communities and the environment. I’m proud this important work is being recognized on this year’s JUST 100 list.”
To develop the ranking, JUST Capital and its partners polled 4,500 Americans to identify the stakeholders and issues they think businesses should focus on most, and then evaluated companies based on what respondents identified as priorities. Not surprisingly, this year’s evaluation took a close look at how companies are supporting employees, including pay, training, health, equity and benefits.
Here are some of the actions we’ve taken this year that have benefitted our various stakeholders:
- We supported employees since the beginning of the pandemic with wage increases, additional paid sick leave, remote work, flexible work options like reduced workweek schedules and job sharing, enhanced paid caregiver leave and backup child care benefits, and an emergency financial assistance fund.
- Early in the pandemic, we rapidly deployed new and innovative ways to serve customers so they could safely and efficiently get the tech they needed to transition to remote work and school.
- We’re opening our stores late on Election Day, so our employees have the time they need to cast a ballot in person, if they choose. We’re also giving paid time off to employees who volunteer to work at the polls on Election Day.
- We’ve committed to creating more than 100 Teen Tech Centers to help bridge the opportunity gap and digital divide for teens in disinvested communities across the country.
- We are a founding member of a new public-private partnership, called ConnectedMN, that is providing computers and internet access to thousands of youth in our home state.
- We accelerated our climate commitments by recently signing The Climate Pledge to be carbon neutral across our business by 2040. Since 2009, we have decreased our environmental impact by 55%.
