Fortune magazine just released its prestigious Most Powerful Women list, and we’re proud to have our own Corie Barry recognized in the top 10 this year!
This is Corie’s second year as our CEO and her second year on the Fortune list. She ranks No. 9 for 2020, up from No. 18 last year.
Fortune highlighted Corie’s leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, including her “aggressive steps to keep her employees safe.” The magazine pointed to her decision to close our stores to foot traffic early in the pandemic, even when deemed an essential business.
“While I am honored to be included on this list, I believe it is truly a recognition of the hard work that has taken place across this entire organization during the past year,” Corie said. “I have the privilege of representing all the amazing men and women of Best Buy, and I do not take that for granted.”
For the first time, this year’s Most Powerful Women list added a new metric on the importance of leaders using their influence to shape their companies and the wider world for the better. That’s something Corie has done in recent months, as she has used her voice to speak out for racial equality and social justice.
This is the 23rd year of the Fortune Most Powerful Women list. Only 50 women in the United States were selected, and like last year, Corie, 45, is the youngest.
Corie became Best Buy’s CEO in June 2019. Before that she was our chief financial and strategic growth officer, playing a major part in the company’s turnaround and growth strategies. She has worked at Best Buy since 1999.
