Forbes magazine has recognized Best Buy as one of America’s Best Employers for New Graduates for 2022. It’s the fourth year in a row we’ve made the list, which identifies companies young professionals would most highly recommend to family and friends. Employers are ranked based on criteria such as their workplace experience, career opportunities and the values and purpose of the company.
Starting a new job after completing college is a big deal, and Kyle Tekautz is one of many recent grads kicking off their professional lives at Best Buy. A member of the Class of 2022 from a university in Des Moines, Iowa, Kyle is heading into the workforce with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication — and whole lot of experience with change.
After all, being a college student during a global pandemic has meant adjusting how he lived, learned and looked to the future.
“The biggest thing the pandemic taught me was flexibility and being able to shift focus on a dime and make sure I’m not skipping a beat,” Kyle said. “It also prepared me for the new working environment. I feel prepared moving from a hybrid learning experience to hybrid working.”
Kyle first became interested in Best Buy when he was home from college over winter break. He saw an open communications specialist role posted online and applied.
“I had my first interview the day I was leaving to study abroad in London!” he said.
In the days that followed, Kyle read more about Best Buy and learned about what he called the company’s “culture of doing good” and attention given to social issues.
Kyle got to begin his role early by joining his new team remotely in a part-time capacity as he finished his last semester, so he got a sneak peek into the company.
“It is cool how progressive Best Buy is, and I think it translates to the job market for new grads,” he said. “It’s not just about the job. It’s about what the company stands for and values.”
About the list
Forbes, in partnership with Statista, surveyed more than 20,000 young professionals who work for companies that employ at least 1,000 people in the U.S. The survey was focused on work-related issues and the experiences these employees had in the workplace. Companies were rated on several aspects, including how likely the employee is to recommend it their employer to family and friends, as well as factors like atmosphere, development, diversity, pay and working conditions.
