Best Buy Donates $100,000 to Support Institute for Minneapolis Teens

Best Buy announced Tuesday that it has donated $100,000 to Project SUCCESS through the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee Legacy Fund.

The donation supported the launch of the Project SUCCESS Institute, a learning center equipped with state-of-the-art technology to help Minneapolis teens complete courses for school credit, develop tech skills and earn certifications. Project SUCCESS works to improve middle and high school students’ academic achievement and future career success through hands-on experiences. Annually, the organization serves nearly 13,000 students.

“At Best Buy, we are committed to helping enrich people’s lives through technology. This commitment to Project SUCCESS helps ensure young people experience the benefits of technology and are prepared for the tech-reliant jobs of the future,” said Laura Bishop, Best Buy’s chief corporate responsibility and sustainability officer.

At an event Tuesday recognizing the donation, Geek Squad Agents led workshops in 3D printing and robotics to give students hands-on experiences with the Institute’s new technology.

Best Buy supports programs that leverage technology to prepare underserved teens for the jobs of the future. This commitment is represented in programs such as Best Buy Teen Tech Centers, which are free afterschool programs that help teens build critical tech skills, and Geek Squad Academy. By the end of this year, 23 Best Buy Teen Tech Centers will be open nationwide.
