Best Buy employees in the Nashville area are rallying to support the community after the deadly tornado that struck last week.
The company is donating money and sending teams of volunteers to help with the local response and recovery efforts.
“We see the customers who are in our stores every day all across Nashville who are trying to figure out next steps, and we’re hoping to just bring a little relief this week,” said Best Buy District Manager Kavin Johnson, who has lived in the area for 20 years. “We just want to be there for the community and try to help out as much as we can.”
Here’s more information about our various community efforts.
- Salvation Army volunteer event (Tuesday, March 10) – Starting at 7 a.m., 50 Best Buy volunteers will meet at The Salvation Army-Nashville Area Command Center to help with food prep, administrative support, loading trucks, and delivering and serving food to area residents. We will also donate $5,000 to the organization’s response and recovery efforts, and about 50 portable battery packs to homes and families in need.
- American Red Cross volunteer event (Wednesday, March 11) – Starting at 7 a.m., 50 Best Buy volunteers will assist the American Red Cross with food prep, administrative support, loading trucks, and delivering and serving food to area residents. We will also donate $5,000 to the organization’s response and recovery efforts, as well as five Chromebook computers that will be used to create an internet café for residents who are staying at the shelter at Centennial Sportsplex.
- Community Day at Mt. Juliet Best Buy store (Wednesday, March 11, and Thursday, March 12) – From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, we will host an internet café in the parking lot of our Mt. Juliet store with 15 Chromebooks for residents to use. We’ll also transform the store’s install bay into a gaming zone to keep youth entertained while their parents use the internet café or shop at the store. Ten employees per day will volunteer to support this event.
In addition to those community events, employees at all our Nashville stores are collecting supplies and donations for Second Harvest Food Bank and the Nashville Humane Society. Plus, Best Buy is matching all employee donations given to the Best Buy Foundation at 100% for contributions made toward the Nashville response efforts.
Meanwhile, any employees who were impacted by the tornado can apply for disaster assistance through the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Employee Disaster Relief Fund designated exclusively for Best Buy employees.
