Best Buy has earned a perfect score of 100% on the Disability Equality Index (DEI), ranking among the leading companies on the list of Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion for the seventh year in a row.
The DEI is a benchmarking tool used by Fortune 1000 companies to better understand how they can achieve disability inclusion and equality. The index measures culture and leadership, companywide access, community engagement, supplier diversity, recruitment, benefits, and employee retention and advancement.
More than 61 million adults in the U.S. — a quarter of the population — report having a disability, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The complexities of living and working with disabilities bring valuable skills and traits to the workplace, such as problem-solving, determination and perseverance.
At Best Buy, we strive to be an accessible and inclusive workplace, which is vital to attracting and retaining the best talent while also delivering a great employee experience. Here are some of the programs and resources available to all our employees.
- Community and support – Through education and action, our disABILITIES Employee Resource Group helps remove barriers for people with disabilities to help them unleash their full potential. Its reach touches mental health, chronic illness, autism, cancer, caregiving and addiction.
- Employee benefits and accommodations– We strive to create a work environment with equal opportunity regardless of background. Some of the benefits and accommodations we offer our employees include modified work schedules, providing leave of absences, and even having quiet spaces on our corporate campus for meditation, reflection, prayer, or rest.
- Mental health resources – We have expanded our mental health resources for our employees by introducing Wellthy, a support service for employees needing help with logistical and administrative tasks for the caring of a loved one. We also enhanced our paid leave program for those we need to take a leave of absence for mental health.
