As we celebrate Latinx Heritage Month, Best Buy is proud to honor the rich heritage of our Latinx team members, customers and the communities we’re privileged to serve.
We’re committed to inclusion and diversity year-round and aim to foster welcoming environments where everyone can express their whole selves. Latinx Heritage Month (Sept. 15 – Oct. 15) is an opportunity for us to specifically recognize the contributions of those whose ancestors come from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and South America.
We asked some of our amazing Latinx leaders from across the company what being Latinx means to them.
Melissa Jacqueline Noriega
Title: Director of enterprise learning
Location: Southern California
What being Latinx means to me: “In the largest scale it means being part of a beautiful, colorful, inclusive, gritty community with a deep rich history. In a smaller scale it fills me with hope with the potential of what Latinx is shaping to be in this country specifically, and the power the presence of our community demands and holds.”
Oscar Castillo
Title: Geek Squad manager
Location: Willow Grove, Pennsylvania
What being Latinx means to me: “It means being an ambassador for my culture. I love sharing music, customs, cuisine — really anything — with anyone who’s interested.”
Ana Tafur
Title: Finance supervisor
Location: Richfield, MN
What being Latinx means to me: “It’s who I am. It is in my blood. It is my family and all that I hold dear. When I came to the US as a 9-year-old, I felt like I had to fit in and hid my identity for most of my childhood and early adulthood. I am now embracing who I am and rediscovering the me I was before, and it feels like I am finally becoming my authentic self and who I was made to be.”
Nataly Izquierdo
Title: District manager
Location: Atlanta
What being Latinx means to me: “It means so much to be part of a loving caring community. I’m proud of my roots and where I come from. My parents worked so hard to provide a life I would have never imagined.”
Izzy Gomez
Title: Senior human resources business partner, supply chain
Location: Orlando, Florida
What being Latinx means to me: “Being an ally to all minority groups, paying it forward while setting the best example I can.”
Luisa Beatriz Solana
Title: Director of omnichannel operations services
Location: Richfield, MN
What being Latinx means to me: “It means that I come from a people rooted in tradition, strong values and an incredibly rich culture. It gives me great pride to have been born in this country to Cuban parents who not only instilled in me the importance of family but also the importance of living in freedom.”
