For the 10th holiday season in a row, Best Buy is joining the fight against childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases as part of the St. Jude Thanks and Giving® campaign.
Starting this month, we’re asking our customers to consider giving to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® when making purchases in stores or online. Every dollar donated will not only help with research, but also ensure families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food.
Since 2013, Best Buy has collected more than $145 million in donations, making us the largest corporate donor in the campaign’s history. We couldn’t have done it without the generosity of our customers and employees.
“Each year we are overjoyed to see firsthand the power of togetherness that St. Jude brings,” said Ray Sliva, Best Buy’s chief people officer. “With the help of our generous customers and employees, our efforts allow St. Jude to focus on what matters most: saving children regardless of their financial situation. We are honored to play a role in such an inspirational and life-changing campaign.”
Fighting the good fight
St. Jude is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
Since opening in 1962, St. Jude has helped push the overall survival rate from 20% to more than 80% and doesn’t plan on stopping until no child dies from cancer. Because St. Jude freely shares the breakthroughs it makes, every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save even more children.
“We are so very grateful for this incredible support from our friends at Best Buy, whose dedication to the St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign continues to make a significant impact for St. Jude families,” said Richard C. Shadyac, Jr., president and CEO of ALSAC. “By rallying customers and employees to make a difference during the holiday season, the Best Buy community is helping St. Jude fuel its mission to accelerate progress worldwide in researching and treating pediatric cancer and other catastrophic diseases.”
This year’s funds will help in many ways. Here are some examples how:
- Help cover in-patient hospital stays of 1,108 days for two St. Jude patients
- Help provide 12,299 days of intravenous chemotherapy for leukemia or solid tumor patients.
- Help cover the cost of treating 48 pediatric cancer patients, whose treatment can last three years or longer, at an average cost of $425,000 per patient and up to $1 million per patient
We are extremely grateful and excited to see the impact that we can make this year to help St. Jude save lives around the world.
