The index is produced in conjunction with SAM’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment and uses a best-in-class approach to measure and compare companies, across 57 industries, on environmental, social and corporate governance. It is also used by investors around the world to evaluate leadership and risk management.

02 Nov: Best Buy Debuts Exclusive Insignia LED Light Bulb With Improved Features for Easier Adoption of LED Lighting

MINNEAPOLIS, November 2, 2012 – Best Buy Co., Inc. (NYSE: BBY), the industry leader in consumer electronics, today announced a new LED light bulb. Powered by Cree, Inc. (Nasdaq: CREE) LEDs, the new bulb is designed with improved features to make adoption of LED lighting easier for consumers. The Insignia LED bulb, available exclusively at Best Buy, was developed in partnership with local Twin Cities inventor, Dave Carroll, and offers distinct advantages over existing LED bulbs on the market today.

Unlike other LED bulbs, the Insignia LED light bulb looks like a traditional incandescent light bulb, a familiar bulb shape for consumers, and provides a more ambient, omni-directional light.

09 Oct: Best Buy Gets a 96A from the CDP for Carbon Performance & Climate Change Disclosure

MINNEAPOLIS, October 9, 2012 – Best Buy Co., Inc. (NYSE:BBY) received its highest score ever from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), which represents 655 institutional investors with $78 trillion in assets, for its performance and approach to the disclosure of climate change information.

Best Buy was recognized by the CDP in both the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI), scoring a 96 for disclosure, and the Carbon Performance Leadership Index (CPLI), scoring an “A” for performance. The combined score of 96A is tied for the second-highest score among S&P 500 companies, and is the highest combined score among retailers.

23 May: Best Buy Awards More Than $1 Million to 2012 Scholarship Program Winners

MINNEAPOLIS, May 23, 2012 – Best Buy Co., Inc. (NYSE:BBY) today announced the 2012 Best Buy Scholarship Program winners, each of whom will receive a $1,000 scholarship for demonstrating excellence in academic achievements, volunteer efforts and work experience. This year, scholarships will be awarded to 1,106 students in grades 9-12, living in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, who plan to enter a full-time undergraduate course of study upon high school graduation. Best Buy and Best Buy Children’s Foundation are focused on opportunities to help teen students prepare for a brighter future with dollars for college tuition.

11 May: STATEMENT: Best Buy Recognized Among Nation’s Green Powered Organizations By U.S. EPA

MINNEAPOLIS, May 11, 2012 – Best Buy Co., Inc. (NYSE:BBY) has been named to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) top 50 list of the largest green power purchasers. In 2011, Best Buy purchased nearly 119 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power – electricity generated from renewable resources, such as wind, solar, geothermal, biogas, biomass and low-impact hydro – demonstrating a proactive choice to support renewable energy alternatives.
