Best Buy is excited to be named to the 2019 Forbes list of Best Employers for New Graduates.
It’s our first time on the list, which identifies the companies that new members of the workforce like most and would recommend. While pay is a major factor, young professionals also look for development opportunities and a company that has a strong purpose and values.
At Best Buy, we’re focused on our employees’ growth and building a fun, fast-paced and inclusive culture. We’re a company with a purpose of enriching lives through technology and a philosophy of making a positive impact on our communities and environment. We believe when you’re hired here you’re joining a family.
That resonates with young professionals like Zack Johnson, an associate manager in enterprise customer care at Best Buy’s corporate office.
“Best Buy has made me feel like I have a voice in company decision-making and has given me significant responsibility early in my career,” he said. “It’s very important for me to feel empowered and have development opportunities. And, it’s a fun place to work.”
Development a priority
Zack also co-leads an employee group dedicated to recruiting, retaining and developing young professionals.
“We’re helping them connect with one another, which creates a feeling of community,” he said. “We also help the business by partnering with our recruiting and consumer insights team to help them better understand our demographic.”
Best Buy employs about 125,000 people, across more than 1,000 locations.
“Best Buy is a great place for someone in the beginning of their career,” said Jackie Boyd, senior director of talent development. “We provide a foundation to learn multiple parts of the business, from retail to supply chain to corporate.”
Kiki Stewart, an assistant store manager in Blaine, Minnesota, never thought her job at Best Buy would turn into a career.
“I started as a seasonal employee, and now I’m an assistant store manager just six years later, which makes me really proud,” she said. “I love working for Best Buy because I can genuinely be me — with my team and my customers.”
Forbes, in partnership with Statista, surveyed more than 10,000 young professionals (those who have less than 10 years of work experience) working for companies employing at least 1,000 people in the U.S. Companies were rated on six aspects, including company image, development and working conditions.
