Perfect Marks For Carbon Efforts! We’re Hanging This Award on the Fridge

I’m especially proud to work at Best Buy because today we join an elite group of S&P 500 companies recognized by CDP for leadership in carbon reduction and disclosure.

CDP released its S&P 500 Annual Report, including the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index, in which Best Buy received the maximum score of 100. Adding to our “A” designation for our carbon reduction program, Best Buy achieved a perfect score.

The report also features Best Buy as a leader in the retail sector, including this comment from Public Affairs & Sustainability Vice President Laura Bishop: “Best Buy is committed to sustaining our planet and our communities. The scale of our operations provides us an opportunity to positively impact the transition to a low-carbon economy and the unique ability to provide consumers with energy-efficient solutions.”

This is Best Buy’s first-ever perfect score from CDP, a global nonprofit that drives action toward a more sustainable world. Its reporting is done on behalf of 822 investors who represent more than a third of the world’s invested capital. The ranking gives investors and other stakeholders compelling evidence that we are effectively managing carbon emissions to help reduce operational risks and ensure a more sustainable business. Our perfect score also demonstrates that Best Buy is making outstanding progress streamlining our business and conserving resources in the communities we serve.

After exceeding our carbon reduction goal last year, we’ve taken a fresh look at potential projects and renewed our goal to reduce carbon 45 percent by 2020.  I’m renewed again today by CDP’s recognition of the progress we’ve made – and by our continued efforts.
