13 Oct: All Best Buy gift cards are now 100% recyclable

Just in time for the holiday season, Best Buy is proud to announce that 100% of the physical gift cards we sell in our U.S. stores and online are now made of paper and can go straight into the recycling bin.

We started switching over to paper recyclable gifts card in 2018, and since then we’ve helped avoid adding approximately 196 tons of plastic waste to landfills. (For context, the Statue of Liberty weighs approximately 204 tons!).

By making all Best Buy gift cards entirely from paper, customers can recycle them alongside all the other things you normally put in your recycle bin at home.

04 Nov: Best Buy Gift Cards Now 100% Paper

Just in time for the holiday season, Best Buy is proud to announce that 100% of our gift cards purchased in U.S. stores and online are now made of paper.

That means they’re recyclable in any curbside bin — a big win for the environment. We are one of only a handful of retailers to offer customers 100% paper gift cards.

This year we will have saved more than 70 tons of plastic from landfill (that’s the weight of about 35 cars)!

12 Nov: Paper or plastic? New gift cards are made from trees

When it comes to selecting a gift for someone, you can rarely go wrong with a gift card to their favorite store. And now, when it’s a Best Buy gift card, you can feel good about how it’s made.

That’s because we’re saying “Bye-bye!” to plastic gift cards and “Season’s Greetings!” to gift cards made of paper.

Why the switch? It all comes down to what happens to the gift card after the last cent is spent. Our new gift cards and packaging can go right into the recycling bin.

13 Sep: Best Buy Gift Cards Go Green

Best Buy recently released a gift card that can be recycled at home – with your paper, cans and bottles.

Because the “Go Green” gift card is made out of paper, it can go right into your recycling bin at home.  Easy peasy.

The traditional gift card is made out of polyvinyl chloride, also known as PVC, a material that is not usually accepted in city recycling programs. By using paper, we want to help reduce the amount of plastic that’s thrown out.
