Inclusion and Belonging
Best Buy Chairman and CEO Hubert Joly welcomed the Twin Cities Black Affinity Network to corporate headquarters on Saturday for a conversation about diversity and inclusion.
“My purpose is to inspire people around me in a positive way and to use the position I have as a platform to create positive change,” Hubert told the crowd of about 250.
Part of that change is bringing more diversity to the workplace. “If we don’t embrace the richness of backgrounds and experiences, then it’s going to be a terrible world for individuals who feel excluded,” Hubert said.
Best Buy Chairman and CEO Hubert Joly on Tuesday signed the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™ pledge. It’s the largest CEO-driven business commitment to advance diversity and inclusion within the workplace.
Best Buy recognizes that diversity within an organization spurs greater innovation, revenue growth and strategic-critical thinking.
“Best Buy strives to unleash the power of our people and utilize their unique talents, experiences, beliefs and backgrounds to create an engaging work environment best suited to fulfill our mission of helping our customers pursue their passions and enrich their lives with the help of technology,” Hubert said.
As part of the Women’s History Month celebrations hosted by Best Buy’s Women’s Employee Network*, Dress for Success stopped by on Monday to share their mission and brought a special guest to share her own personal story.
Odessa, a woman who has used the services at Dress for Success, shared a powerful story about how the nonprofit not only helped her get the professional attire needed to impress potential employers, but also gave her the confidence to get the job.
After participating in Dress for Success’s Suiting program, which gives women the clothes and the tools needed for their job interview, she took advantage of the nonprofit’s Employee Retention program.
