It’s critical for teens to develop tech skills that will set them up for future career success. That’s why, once a year, the Best Buy Foundation provides grants to local nonprofits, schools and libraries to support hands-on, experiential tech education programs for underserved teens in communities where we do business.
Well, that time of year is here. We’re now accepting applications for Best Buy Community Grants.
If you’re an organization that has a proven track record of helping underserved teens gain 21st-century tech skills during out-of-school hours, now is the time to apply.
Examples of program activities include:
- Computer programming
- Digital imaging (photography, graphic design, videography)
- Music production
- Robotics
- Gaming and mobile app development
Nearly 300 organizations received grants last year. Here are a few of those recipients:
- Latinitas in Austin, Texas, for its Tech Savvy Chica camp
- My Place Teen Center (previously known as Mission Possible Teen Center) in Westbrook, Maine, for its STEM program, which includes digital photography, robotics, computer repair and a CoderDojo, an open-source, student-led computer coding club
- Performing Arts United in Sacramento, California, to help fund its recording studio
Community Grant applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. (EDT) on July 1. Awards will be determined by Best Buy teams across the country. The average grant amount is $5,000 and will not exceed $10,000.
