Best Buy has joined a growing list of companies to adopt the United Nations’ standards for tackling discrimination against lesbian, gay, bi, trans and intersex (LGBTI) people.
The U.N. on Thursday announced that Best Buy is one of 65 companies that has pledged support for its LGBTI Standards of Conduct for Business, which were first announced in September. These standards build on the U.N.’s Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, to which Best Buy aligns its business practices.
“Best Buy’s values and guiding behaviors are strengthened by the belief that everyone should be able to show up authentically and not be limited by their identity,” said Kamy Scarlett, Best Buy’s chief human resources officer. “Today, we’re proud to reaffirm that commitment by supporting the United Nations LGBTI Standards of Conduct for Business.”
Best Buy is a longtime supporter of equality, demonstrated by a perfect rating of 100 on the annual Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index and earning the designation as a “Best Place to Work” for the 13th year. And the company ranked second among retailers in overall employee satisfaction in a recently released study by UBS based on data from career website Glassdoor.
