Consider conservation during Energy Efficiency Month

October signals the start of cozy sweaters, pumpkin-spiced everything and color-changing foliage. It’s also National Energy Efficiency Month.

While energy efficiency is something that we can practice every day, October’s a good time to reacquaint ourselves with our connection to energy and how we use it.

National Energy Awareness Month, which began in the early 1990s, raises awareness of the importance of sustainably managing the nation’s energy resources. Over the decades of celebrating energy efficiency in October, the conversation has expanded to incorporate multiple elements of energy conservation, such as highlighting the food/water/energy nexus. The nexus is the relationship between needing to feed a growing population and the already energy- and water-intensive production of food. That’s a big problem to solve.

But we also think about energy conservation at a personal level – everyone can play a part.Best Buy has the latest products, from LED light bulbs to smart thermostats, that make saving energy almost effortless. Throughout this month, we will be sharing tips to help you reduce the amount of power you use at home and work.

Here’s one to start: ENERGY STAR certified LED bulbs last up to 15 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs.1
