We’ve always known Best Buy customers are the best. Now we have proof – over the last 5 months, Best Buy customers stepped up and contributed more than $7.5 million to the Best Buy Foundation in support of Best Buy Teen Tech Centers®.
Between May 1 and Oct. 1, customers contributed in stores and online to help continue the expansion of the Teen Tech Center network, including programming for career and post-secondary transitions for teens from disinvested communities.
“It is inspiring to see our customers show up in a big way year after year to support this important cause,” said Andrea Wood, Best Buy’s vice president of social impact. “Best Buy Teen Tech Centers are providing access, inspiration, and opportunity for young people in the communities that need it most. Contributions like these will expand our impact and ensure that even more teens across the country have the resources to pursue their dreams.”
Best Buy Teen Tech Centers® provide a safe space to create, learn and explore using the latest cutting-edge technology with the support of adult mentors. Teens can pursue their passions with access to tools for film production, augmented and virtual reality, digital media, 3-D design, audio engineering, and so much more. Earlier this year, the 50th Best Buy Teen Tech Center® opened, a major milestone toward the foundation’s goal of opening 100 locations by 2025.
Last year’s campaign raised more than $5.5 million. Customer donations support Teen Tech Centers through:
- Construction and startup costs for new locations.
- Cutting-edge technology to fill these creative environments.
- Innovative career programming and post-secondary support
- Salaries and benefits for the dedicated youth-development professionals who serve as mentors, coordinators and safe resources for the teens who visit Teen Tech Centers.
