5 Easy Ways to Save Energy at Home

We’re celebrating Energy Awareness Month here at Best Buy. Not only is saving energy good for the environment, it’s also good for your pocketbook. Here are five small things you can do to save energy and money in your home:

  1. Change your lightbulbs to LED. They last longer (20 years!) and use up to 85 percent less energy than a standard incandescent bulb.
  2. Replace that old fridge with an ENERGY STAR® certified one. You’ll be surprised how much energy you can save. We’re happy to recycle your old one for free, too.
  3. Check your thermostat set points. Try shifting the temperature up or down one degree or consider a smart thermostat so you can adjust the temperature from your smart devices when you’re not home.
  4. Select the “home” mode when setting up your new television. TVs usually default to “retail” mode, which is brighter (and hogs more electricity) than you probably need in the living room.
  5. Unplug devices that are not in use. Yes, we’re looking at that mobile phone charger sitting on the counter with no phone attached.
