Best Buy Is A Climate A-Lister

Best Buy has been recognized as a global leader in addressing climate change, securing a spot on the prestigious CDP Climate A List for the second time.

This distinction, awarded Thursday, puts Best Buy among the top 5 percent of companies participating in CDP’s climate change program, which is regarded as the “honor roll” for environmental stewardship. Best Buy is one of only two U.S. retailers named to this year’s list of 120 companies.

Reducing carbon in our operations has been a key focus at Best Buy for nearly a decade. From optimizing our store energy use to transitioning our Geek Squad fleet to hybrid vehicles, we continue to find ways to use fewer resources while also saving money.

CDP, formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project, is an international nonprofit that drives companies to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and safeguard natural resources. More than 6,300 companies disclosed environmental data through CDP in 2017, and many investors will use that information to help make investment decisions. The full Climate A List, including all company scores, is available on CDP’s website.

To make sure we continue to move the needle, Best Buy recently set a new goal to reduce our carbon emissions by 60 percent (over a 2009 baseline). We focus on carbon because it’s the right thing to do, and because it’s good for our business.

Our customers expect us to reduce our environmental impact, just as they explore eco-friendly options for themselves. In fact, in a recent national survey, we found that more than two-thirds of consumers consider investing in technology that will make their own homes more environmentally friendly1.
