Starting this month, a new nationwide Best Buy ad campaign will feature teens and the mentors that are helping them pursue their dreams.
“Mentor Moments” highlights three pairs of teens that participate in Best Buy Teen Tech Center® programs around the U.S and their relationships with their Best Buy Teen Tech Center coordinators. In the short films, New York City-based New York City-based director and documentary filmmaker Rodney Lucas and story producer Bridget Botchway Bradley focus on the power and lasting impact of mentorship. The campaign, which was done in partnership with Best Buy Creative, will run on national TV, as well as Best Buy social media channels.
Teen Tech Centers provide safe, after-school spaces where teens can get hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology. Adult mentors give youth the support to create, innovate and explore their interests. Each center provides teens with opportunities to dive into their passion areas such as robotics, photography, music production and more.
With 46 locations open so far, the Teen Tech Centers are a part of Best Buy’s commitment to support youth across the country in building brighter futures through tech. Our goal is to support 100 Teen Tech Center locations by 2025, expanding the program’s reach to 30,000 teens each year. Starting this month, a customer donation campaign will help us move faster toward accomplishing this goal.
These videos will help raise awareness of the great work teens are doing all over the nation. Meet the teens and mentors featured in “Mentor Moments” below:
Tèa and Megan Nykodym – Las Vegas
Tèa has been part of the Best Buy Teen Tech Center program at the Clark County Library since 2018 and is known as a leader amongst her peers. With the encouragement of her mentor Megan, Tèa has explored all kinds of tech, but has come to learn that she especially enjoys mindfulness programming, playing guitar, and photography.
Gabe and Doug Morris – Indianapolis
Gabe grew up surrounded by the sounds of soul music playing from his mother’s records. As a member of the Best Buy Teen Tech Center powered by Klipsch at the Martin Luther King Center, he has spent lots of time in the music studio alongside his mentor Doug. With aspirations of becoming a DJ or music producer, Gabe has been busy at the center creating a sound of his own.
Anouk and Ruben– San Jose
Anouk has found a passion for using her words to inspire the next generation of innovators and leaders. As a poet and activist for social change, her mentor Ruben believes that she has the power to carry communities through her work. At the Best Buy Teen Tech Center powered by Google.org at Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana (MACLA) and in her community, Anouk hopes to encourage her peers to find their voice as well.
