Texas Best Buy stores go big for local blood drive

Giving blood can save lives, and 10 Best Buy stores in Texas recently came together to host a blood drive to help people in their communities. It all started when Myrna Bullock, general manager of Store 1035 in Mansfield, started hearing about a critical blood shortage.

“I learned that around the Memorial Day holiday the need for blood generally increases,” she said.

She talked with other Texas GMs on a weekly call about what they could do to help. They decided to have a blood drive to support Carter BloodCare, a nonprofit that serves more than 200 medical facilities in the state.

“Having a blood drive makes the awareness go up that Best Buy cares about the community,” Myrna said.

The blood drive, held on May 28, included five bloodmobiles that made the rounds to the parking lots of the 10 stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. More than 130 people donated blood across all the locations. Ryan Fazio, retail supervisor at Store 57 in Arlington, was impressed with the event.

“Hopefully, we’ll have them [Carter] here every couple of months in the future on a consistent basis,” he said.

Others shared similar sentiments, expressing their gratitude for the bloodmobile volunteers and pride in working for a company that gives back to the community.

“To sacrifice blood for someone else that you don’t know or have not met — it touches my heart,” said Jeremy Potter, GM of Store 1027 in Fort Worth.

Participating stores included: Store 55 in Hurst; Store 57 in Arlington; Store 148 in Grapevine; Store 176 in Hulen; Store 665 in Burleson; Store 1024 in Weatherford; Store 1027 in Lake Worth; Store 1035 in Mansfield; Store 1494 in Heritage Trace, and Store 1889 in Waxahachie.
