Ron Wilson, Best Buy’s president of international, received the prestigious 2019 Distinguished Canadian Retailer of the Year award from the Retail Council of Canada (RCC) on Tuesday night.
The award recognizes a retail leader who has led his or her company to outstanding business success and innovation, as well as consistently demonstrated community commitment and support.
“RCC is excited to recognize Ron Wilson for his continued success in an ever-changing retail sector, for his leadership at Best Buy Canada and for supporting schools in building students’ confidence and creativity — qualities that open doors to future possibilities,” RCC President and CEO Diane Brisebois said in a press release announcing the award.
‘An award for us all’
In his role as Best Buy’s president of international, Ron guides the vision and strategic direction for the company’s operations in Canada and Mexico. He oversaw the successful consolidation of the Future Shop and Best Buy brands and is moving the company toward providing a seamless omnichannel retail experience. Ron’s leadership has been instrumental in driving exceptional in-store and in-home service that is focused on building long-term relationships with customers.
Best Buy also plays an important role in communities across Canada, using technology to enrich the education of young Canadians through the company’s community programs.
Ron began his career at Best Buy more than 25 years ago on the front lines of a Future Shop store in Edmonton, Alberta. Since then, he has held leadership roles in numerous areas of the company, including merchandising, operations, marketing and e-commerce.
“I am pleased to accept this award on behalf of all of our people at Best Buy, past and present,” Ron said. “Our company’s success is thanks to the dedication and passion of a large team that I am very proud of. I strongly believe this is an award for us all.”
