Best Buy Named a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality for 16th Year

For the 16th year, Best Buy has achieved a 100% rating on the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC’s) Corporate Equality Index, earning the distinction of being a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.

We are proud of this meaningful recognition, which reflects our continued, long-term commitment to workplace equality.

“We want everyone to feel safe, valued, and supported in being authentically themselves,” said Mark Irvin, Best Buy’s chief inclusion, diversity and talent officer. “Being named a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality highlights that we are acting in line with our values of being a place where everyone can see themselves in the story.”

Best Buy’s Pride Employee Resource Group (ERG), whose membership has grown 70% over the past year, continues to champion new ways to foster an inclusive environment for LGBTQIA+ employees. As part of the Workplace Transition and Gender Identity Toolkit, the company completed system enhancements that allow preferred names to be displayed across various customer and internal-facing systems.

Our inclusive benefits offerings also continue to grow, with the addition of caregiver leave, adoption and surrogacy benefits. And Best Buy was the first company to sponsor Our Gay History in 50 States.

About the index

The annual HRC Corporate Equality Index is the leading benchmark on how companies take action every day to achieve workplace equality for LGBTQIA+ employees.

HRC evaluates a company’s policies and practices and considers factors, including:

  • Nondiscrimination workplace protections for sexual orientation and gender identity
  • Parity between same and different-sex spousal and partner benefits
  • Transgender-inclusive health care coverage
  • Support for an inclusive culture
  • Public engagement with the LGBTQIA+ community
  • A company’s overall corporate social responsibility

We are proud to once again achieve a perfect 100% across all categories this year.

“We believe that nurturing a diverse workforce, where we all can contribute and bring our gifts and talents to the forefront of creating exceptional experiences for each other and our customers, is paramount to success and in being one of the best places to work for everyone,” Mark said.

As always, our work toward workplace equality and inclusion continues. In the meantime, click here to learn more about Pride at Best Buy.
