Best Buy updates dress code to include jeans

Best Buy’s store employees are known for their blue shirts. As of today, they can wear blue jeans, too.

We’re updating our dress code to let employees don denim — either blue or black — as part of the official store uniform. The change also applies to other field employees.

This is the first major makeover of the Best Buy retail uniform since we switched from khaki to black pants six years ago. Our store employees have been wearing their iconic blue shirts since 1989.

We announced the news today at our annual Holiday Leadership Meeting in Las Vegas.

A closer look

Here are some more details on the new look.

  • Shirts: Employees will continue to rock their polos. The shirts can be worn tucked or untucked, but belts should be worn when shirts are tucked.
  • Bottoms: Employees now can throw on their favorite blue or black jeans, so long as they’re in good shape — no rips, tears or distressing. If they prefer, they can continue wearing black pants or skirts.
  • Shoes: Employees can pick their favorite kicks — any color, any kind. They just need to be neat and clean, closed toe, flat and comfy. (Yes, that includes sneakers!)

Meanwhile, the traditional Geek Squad uniform isn’t going anywhere. But if an Agent wants to wear jeans, they’ll need a black Geek Squad polo to go with them. The Agent uniform — white shirt, black tie — shouldn’t be worn with jeans.
