01 Feb: Best Buy Named to FTSE4Good Index for Fourth Year

Best Buy has again been recognized for its sustainability efforts by being named to the FTSE4Good Index for the fourth year in a row. The index includes publicly traded companies with strong environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of FTSE Russell’s flagship ESG Index Series, FTSE4Good. The Index Series provides investors with an objective benchmark in which to evaluate companies. Best Buy’s overall score increased this year, and we received the highest possible score in the categories of Climate Change, Environmental Supply Chain, Social Supply Chain and Corporate Governance.

01 Feb: Best Buy Teen Tech Centers Looking for Partners in New Cities

At 11 Best Buy Teen Tech Centers across the United States, teens in underserved communities get hands-on access to technology and instruction so they can find inspiration and learn new skills.

We’re proud to be expanding those opportunities to more cities this year.

In partnership with The Clubhouse Network, Best Buy is seeking proposals from nonprofit community organizations to host new Teen Tech Centers. The locations are Cincinnati, Las Vegas, the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, New Orleans and Nashville, Tennessee. Interested potential partners, particularly those with existing after-school teen programs, are encouraged to view the proposal site and sign-up to attend an upcoming RFP workshop happening soon in your city.

27 Jan: Geek Squad Will Get Air at X Games Aspen

Geek Squad has partnered with Trend Micro to show up in a big way (and for some big air) this weekend at ESPN’s X Games in Aspen, Colorado.

Snowmobile riders Brett Turcotte and Josh Penner will be showing off their tricks on snowmobiles wrapped with Geek Squad and Trend Micro logos.

“These athletes demonstrate extreme technical skill and accuracy at incredibly fast speeds – just like our Geek Squad Agents strive to do every day for our clients and their technology,” said Nate Bauer, Geek Squad’s Chief Inspector.

13 Jan: Want to Host a Geek Squad Academy?  Now’s the Time to Apply

Geek Squad Academy, a Best Buy signature community outreach program, is now accepting applications from nonprofits, schools, libraries and other community groups to host free two-day tech camps for youth this year.

Together, we’ll teach thousands of additional kids across the country the tech skills they need to inspire future education and career choices. Read on for details.

06 Jan: Best Buy Takes EPA Gold Award for E-Recycling Performance

On Saturday, Best Buy will accept distinctive U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) honors as part of sustainability events at CES in Las Vegas.

The EPA will name Best Buy a Gold Tier Award Winner in its Sustainable Materials Management (SMM) Program, the third straight year we’ve received this recognition.

The award commends superior corporate efforts to divert electronics from landfills by working with third-party certified recyclers, as well as being transparent about recycling data and performance.

Since 2009, Best Buy has voluntarily operated the most comprehensive e-waste recycling service in the U.S.

03 Jan: Best Buy is Looking Forward to CES 2017

This week, Best Buy is heading to Las Vegas for CES 2017, the world’s largest gathering for technology and innovation.

Thousands of companies from around the world — from industry giants to small startups — will be there Jan. 5-8 to unveil, experience and discuss the latest in consumer electronics. We’re talking about everything from TVs and virtual reality to self-driving cars and high-tech mattresses.

Best Buy goes every year to meet with our vendor partners and check out products on the show floor before they hit the market.

23 Dec: St. Jude Surgeon Continues Brother’s Cancer Fight

It was Christmas 2009 when Mike Gleason received a diagnosis that shattered his world and that of his family: He had glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive brain tumor with a bleak prognosis. He also had a wife and two sons, ages 6 months and 2 years.

Mike, a longtime Best Buy employee, worked in the Demand Planning department at the corporate office. His role was to stay on top of technology and forecast the latest products customers would want. What he couldn’t have predicted was that diagnosis – or how he’d lose his hard-fought battle with cancer just seven months later, at age 32.

13 Dec: Best Buy Plans to Nearly Double Number of Teen Tech Centers

Jacqueline Arana is a high school sophomore in Los Angeles who credits access to technology and advice from mentors for inspiring her goals of law school and filmmaking.

It wouldn’t be possible without the Bresee Youth Center, which recently joined with Best Buy to create a Teen Tech Center. It’s a state-of-the-art facility where students learn a wide range of tech skills, including digital filmmaking, 3-D design, coding and app development.

Jacqueline is already loving the new center and getting access to the latest tech, including being able “to use the cameras the professionals use.”

05 Dec: Best Buy Named to Human Rights Campaign’s ‘Best Places to Work’ List for 12th Year

Best Buy has landed a top spot on the annual Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Corporate Equality Index, achieving a perfect rating of 100 and earning the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality for the 12th year. Released annually, the index benchmarks and reports on how corporate policies and practices are helping to achieve LGBT workplace equality. The index now includes U.S. and Mexico businesses.

This latest recognition further affirms Best Buy’s support for LGBT equality and commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive employee base, which are fundamental to the company’s own success.
