10 Mar: Best Buy Joins HRC, Other Businesses, to Support Equality Act

Best Buy recently joined the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and other leading businesses to support the Equality Act, federal legislation that would expand legal protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people.

This endorsement underscores our determination to foster an inclusive environment for our employees and customers. It’s also consistent with Best Buy’s core value to “unleash the power of our people” and utilize their unique talents, life experiences, beliefs and backgrounds to create incredible experiences for customers and for ourselves.

Mario’s not only a titan of the gaming industry but of world culture, too.

Created by the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto for the classic arcade game “Donkey Kong,” the
Plumber started as a carpenter named Jump Man before bringing the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) into American living rooms in 1985.

09 Mar: Teen Tech Week: Best Buy, Geek Squad Teach Web Skills

More than 500 teens across the United States are learning the finer points of building websites with the help of Best Buy and Geek Squad volunteers during Teen Tech Week.

The classes are happening at 27 libraries in 22 states through Saturday, March 12. This year’s theme for Teen Tech Week is “Create it at your library.”

Geek Squad Academy’s “Web-Know How” is the foundation for the classes. Topics covered include:

Making websites by manipulating code through hands-on and guided online activities.

MINNEAPOLIS, February 25, 2016 — Best Buy Co., Inc. (NYSE: BBY) today announced that its Board of Directors authorized a plan to return excess capital to shareholders as follows:

A 22% increase in the regular quarterly dividend to $0.28 per share, effective immediately;
A new $1 billion share repurchase plan expected to be completed over the next two years; and
A special dividend of $0.45 per share, or approximately $145 million; related to the net after-tax proceeds from certain legal settlements and asset disposals.

22 Feb: Tech Center Teens Get Career Advice From Best Buy

When it comes to applying for a first job — or any job for that matter — many people stress over writing their resume and preparing for the interview process.

Best Buy recently helped 25 students from the Best Buy Teen Tech Center at Little Black Pearl in Chicago learn how to turn that stress into success during a company-sponsored career workshop.

The goal: to give the students pointers on professionalism and how to stand out as a job candidate.

“It was amazing to see the “ah-ha” moments when they learned to look at things differently” said Frank Barciak, a human resource manager for Best Buy Mobile.

11 Feb: EPA Honors Best Buy for Recycling Program

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) named Best Buy a Gold Tier Award Winner at the agency’s National Sustainable Materials Management (SMM) Program Electronics Challenge ceremonies in Washington, D.C. on Thursday.

The EPA distinction recognizes our commitment to electronics recycling, transparent management practices and consumer education throughout 2014. In that year alone, we sent 61,000 tons of electronics to certified recyclers. Recycling that amount is equal to taking 31,000 passenger vehicles off the road for a whole year.

Our recycling program is a key part of a larger Best Buy product stewardship story.
