18 Nov: Best Buy Makes ‘Best Places to Work’ List for LGBT Equality

Best Buy has received a perfect “100” rating and earned a place on the “Best Places to Work” list on The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation’s annual Corporate Equality Index.

It’s a recognition the company has now received 11 times.

The index provides in-depth analysis and ratings of large U.S. companies, taking into account the employers’ policies and practices put in place for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees.

Best Buy has several teams that contribute to attracting employees and supporting a diverse and inclusive workforce, including the PRIDE Employee Business Network (EBN), the Diversity & Inclusion Team and Human Resources.

21 Sep: My Geek Squad Ride-Along

Last week, I traded my cubicle for riding shotgun in a Geek Squad repair van. Geek Squad Repair Double Agent Bruce Anderson, of St. Louis, let me tag along with him for the day. I wanted to see firsthand how our employees handle environmental issues, but I witnessed a lot more than that.

At Best Buy, we are committed to continuously improving our environmental performance. We focus where we can make the most impact – such as reducing our carbon emissions in our operations and selling sustainable products.

24 Mar: Best Buy and the Women’s Employee Network Donates to Dress for Success

As part of the Women’s History Month celebrations hosted by Best Buy’s Women’s Employee Network*, Dress for Success stopped by on Monday to share their mission and brought a special guest to share her own personal story.

Odessa, a woman who has used the services at Dress for Success, shared a powerful story about how the nonprofit not only helped her get the professional attire needed to impress potential employers, but also gave her the confidence to get the job.

After participating in Dress for Success’s Suiting program, which gives women the clothes and the tools needed for their job interview, she took advantage of the nonprofit’s Employee Retention program.

Diversity and Inclusion Black History Month

18 Feb: Black History Month Breakfast at Best Buy

In honor of Black History Month, Rosalind Chevreuil hosted a breakfast that encouraged meaningful conversation on the topic of diversity and inclusion at Best Buy.

This was a unique opportunity for the Retail Regional Vice Presidents, field leaders and Black Employee Resource Group members and other employees from across the company to learn more about each other’s roles at Best Buy and to talk about diversity and inclusion and the role it plays in our business.

25 Aug: Geek Squad Agent Doubles as a Semipro Wrestler? Believe It.

By day, Geek Squad Agent Chuck Weeden pins down technology problems for Best Buy customers at the Auburn Hills store in suburban Detroit.

But after work, Weeden, a.k.a. “Big Money,” tackles opponents as a semipro wrestler with the Michigan Championship Wrestling Association (MCWA).

Weeden’s signature move? The “Cash Out,” fittingly enough.

“I scoop up my opponent and as I slam him down I wrap my arm around his neck, pretty much landing on his neck as I come down,” he said.

24 Jul: Turn Back the Clock for Geek Squad’s 20th Birthday: ’94 vs. 2014

What better time to reminisce about the technology of two decades ago than this, the Geek Squad’s 20th birthday year.

Let’s  mentally teleport back to the age of copious amounts of cookie-cutter boy bands, jean overalls with one strap undone, and Jansport backpacks.

To get in the right ’90s mindset, check out which movies were hot on VHS — yes VHS — back in 1994.

Today’s version of the PC laptop averages $399, so just a bit more affordable than that heavy $2,000+ version.

Geek Squad NYSE

14 Jul: Geek Squad’s 20th Birthday Has a Nice (NYSE) Ring to It

Geek Squad passed on the sheet cake for its 20th birthday.

Instead, Geek Squad hit Wall Street and celebrated its 20th birthday by ringing the bell at the New York Stock Exchange.

President of Geek Squad Chris Askew was flanked by some of the nation’s best and brightest who wear black and orange (in addition to a couple hand-picked and lucky Blue Shirts, too).

“This trip means the world to me,” said Cody Halvorson, a Precinct Agent from Reno, Nev., who was the individual to ring the bell.
