27 Apr: Married Best Buy employees beat unbelievable odds with kidney match

Shane and Leah Moss are a perfect match in more ways than one.

The married couple works at Best Buy’s distribution center in Ardmore, Oklahoma. After Shane was diagnosed with kidney disease in 2018, he was in dire need of a transplant. Last December, he found a donor.

“The second they told him he needed a kidney, I thought, ‘Well I have two, you can just have one of mine,’” Leah said.

But the testing process to see if she was a match was complicated and long — and the chances of success were slim.

Jill, a program manager in ethics and compliance, made the journey to raise money and awareness for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a rare genetic disease that primarily affects boys. About one out of 5,000 boys is diagnosed with DMD, and it is the most severe of all muscular dystrophies.

“I like to think it inspires people, but they also inspire me with their support and compassion,” Francis said.

An HR manager for omnichannel teams, Francis lives in California and began this morning ritual in March 2021 to connect with people during an isolating time.

Our Reverse Logistics Center in Chino, California, has a saying: Sometimes it’s okay to talk trash.

This philosophy embodies the workplace culture the center has built around making sustainability a priority. They even have a “Green Team,” a group of volunteers committed to leading the facility in sustainable waste initiatives.

And last year, the building became TRUE certified for zero waste, diverting more than 99.67% of its solid waste from landfills.

brodie make a wish

23 Mar: Young boy’s wish comes true thanks to Massachusetts employees

Brodie, a 12-year-old from Massachusetts, finds happiness in video games and watching movies with his younger brother as he battles leukemia.

These two activities prompted him to make a wish: He wanted to have a shopping spree at his local Best Buy store.

The Make-A-Wish® Foundation of Massachusetts and Rhode Island heard about Brodie’s request and went to work.

“He very specifically wanted Best Buy, so, it was getting in touch with someone from the exact store then figuring out what’s possible,” said Hannah Arbuthnot, wish grantor, Make-A-Wish® Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
