07 Jun: Leader receives Patriot Award for support of National Guard employee

While Matt Jesse is away from work to serve in the Minnesota National Guard, he’s grateful to know someone is watching out for him back at the Best Buy corporate office in Richfield.

He has been on military leave for more than two years. Being away from his team for so long has been difficult, but Matt knows he has the support of his boss, Jeremy Stewart, senior director of global operations for Exclusive Brands.

“I haven’t had to worry about what I’m coming back to,” Matt said.

If there’s one word to best describe Sherri-Dawn’s style, it’s rainbow.

“I always have my rainbow glasses,” the Texas-based, Best Buy delivery service driver said.

Though Sherri-Dawn regularly sports her multicolored accessories and, since joining the company in 2016, has participated in events for Best Buy’s Pride Employee Resource Group (ERG). But it wasn’t until recently that she decided Pride spirit wasn’t enough.

On Graham’s first day as a part-time sales associate at Best Buy, his only thought was, “What have I gotten myself into?”

May 1 marked the start of High Blood Pressure Education Month. Under American Heart Association guidelines, nearly half of U.S. adults have high blood pressure and 75% of those with high blood pressure do not have it controlled.

Self-monitoring at home is a great way to manage your blood pressure, whether you have been diagnosed with hypertension or are just looking to keep tabs on your health. Home monitoring allows you to check your blood pressure in a familiar setting, make certain your medication is working and alert you and your doctor to potential health complications.

We are excited to share that Best Buy was awarded a silver Halo Award by Engage for Good, an organization focused on helping companies pursuing socially responsible agendas. The Halo Awards are North America’s highest honor for corporate social impact initiatives that successfully engage consumers and/or employees. 

We were recognized in the category of Best JEDI Initiative (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) for our partnership with PopSockets, which launched during Black History Month last year. The partnership matched four teens from Best Buy Teen Tech Center® programs with mentors from PopSockets.

Shannon Smith has walked the halls of her children’s Minnesota elementary school many times as a parent. Now she’s getting used to taking those same steps as a teacher.  

An associate product manager on Best Buy’s Digital, Analytics & Technology team, Shannon recently became a substitute teacher. She was motivated to get licensed after seeing the COVID-19 pandemic’s devastating impact on her school district, including the loss of several teachers and bus drivers.   

“Schools are hurting for teachers right now,” she said.

Pam Spillner’s a senior finance specialist, mom, and volunteer extraordinaire who has inspired a whole new meaning to the phrase “Best Buy family.”

Her daughter, Ali, is a Geek Squad Agent at Store 1052 in Stevens Point, Wis. Son Jarod is also an Agent who makes in-home repair visits. The siblings have followed in their mom’s footsteps in more ways than one.

05 May: Running for Beans in Boston: Best Buy employee races for a cause

Andie Mulvaney-Thorp is no stranger to running the prestigious Boston Marathon — a race for which runners must meet challenging qualifying times to enter. She first took on the world’s oldest annual marathon in 2016. Then, she returned in 2021 and 2022 in support of a family facing an unimaginable challenge of its own.

A Best Buy Talent Acquisition Manager, Andie completed the 2021 marathon in Beantown in memory of Francesca “Beans” Kaczynski, her friend’s infant daughter who tragically passed away in December 2020, at only nine months, due to a rare form of brain cancer.

Manahil Rajput is a Pakistani American Muslim woman who is known as a vibrant and energetic supervisor at Best Buy Store 1413 in Cypress, Texas.

From an early age, she was taught that cultural and religious identity were things to be cherished and celebrated.

As a college student and full-time retail supervisor, Manahil says she is proud to be part of a company focused on creating an inclusive workplace.

04 May: Agent gifts his badge to colleague during a difficult time

A few months ago, Tony Kline received a package in the mail that came as a shock: the 5-year Geek Squad badge of his colleague, Bob Luthardt.

While Tony immediately planned to send the badge back, Bob included a note that explained there was no one more deserving of his badge. The two have never met in person, but they’ve developed a bond over the years that Bob says saved his life.

“Tony persevered with me when no one else would,” Bob said.
