09 Feb: Best Buy Investing in Houston’s Post-Hurricane Recovery

About 150 8th grade students at Fleming Middle School in Houston got hands-on and learned how to build their own computers on Friday – with the help of dozens of Best Buy volunteers. It was the latest, but certainly not the last, example of Best Buy’s investment in Houston schools, nonprofits and surrounding community.

Best Buy employs thousands of technically skilled employees in the greater Houston area. Many of them were affected by Hurricane Harvey last August. While we addressed our employees’ immediate needs, we also knew the path to full recovery for them and for the Houston community would be a long one.

02 Feb: These Tips Will Help Keep Your TV From Tipping

As what some consider to be the biggest TV event of the year approaches, we want to make sure your Big Game-watching environment is safe. Saturday is National TV Safety Day, where we help build awareness of the dangers of TV tipping.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, more than 17,000 kids visit the ER each year for injuries suffered from TV tip-over accidents1.

But the biggest dreamers were 6 miles off the Strip, away from the glitz and glamor.

Tucked inside the Las Vegas-Clark County Library is the newest Best Buy Teen Tech Center, which officially opened on Monday. It’s the 14th location of its kind in the nation.

03 Jan: St. Jude Treatments Turn Employee’s Grim Diagnosis into Bright Future

You can sum up Jeremy Finney’s approach to fighting cancer with this visual: At 16 years old, he rode his bike 8 miles each way to and from radiation treatments.

That’s grit.

He showed no symptoms of cancer until he woke up one morning with a grapefruit-sized tumor in his neck. As a swimmer, football player and cyclist, getting aggressive treatment for Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma was the last activity Jeremy planned to squeeze into his busy schedule. But the next day he had his first of several surgeries and started treatment.

Some elves from Best Buy met at Children’s Hospital of Orange County on Thursday to help unload a car full of toys.

Best Buy store and district leaders in southern California donated the new, unwrapped gifts. The hope was that each present would lift the spirits of sick kids who must spend their holiday in the hospital.

“The minute we asked, without hesitation they all jumped in,” said Grace Valencia, a human resources manager. “That’s just the great culture we’ve built.”

Agent Kevin Bostwick works at the hospital’s Geek Squad Precinct and knows firsthand how the small things can often make a big difference to families.
