For seventh year, Best Buy makes CDP’s Climate A List

Best Buy is proud to be named to CDP’s prestigious Climate A List for the seventh consecutive year.

We have been credited as a leader by CDP for our efforts tackling climate change and accelerating our environmental goals. This year’s recognition is based on our actions to cut emissions, mitigate climate risks and drive a low-carbon economy.

“Doing our part to create a more sustainable future is the right thing to do for our business, our communities and our planet,” said Tim Dunn, Best Buy’s head of environmental sustainability. “We are proud to be recognized for our efforts to reduce our carbon emissions, help our customers live more sustainably and drive forward the circular economy.”

Along with CDP’s recognition, we have been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for 13 years and awarded ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year the past 10 years for our efforts in sustainability and carbon reduction.

How we made the Climate A List

Each year, CDP assesses companies based on the comprehensiveness of disclosure, awareness and management of environmental risks. It also looks at how organizations demonstrate best practices associated with environmental leadership, such as setting meaningful targets.

Based on data reported through CDP’s 2023 Climate Change questionnaire, Best Buy is one of a small number of companies that achieved an “A” — out of a record-breaking 23,000 companies who responded.

Here are a few examples of our environmental work:

  • We set a science-based goal to reduce carbon emissions in our operations by 75% by 2030 (over a 2009 baseline). By the end of 2022, we reduced our emissions by 66%.
  • We launched a home pick-up recycling service, making it easier than ever to recycle old tech while protecting the environment.
  • We’ve set a goal to achieve 85% waste diversion across our U.S. operations by 2025. Since then, we have brought our waste diversion to 70%.
  • We signed on to The Climate Pledge and joined other leading companies committed to being carbon neutral by 2040.
