Raise the bar on home theater sound

TVs are getting smarter, slimmer and continue to improve picture quality. What’s not to love?

Well, truth is, you might not be getting the best audio you could right from the device.

“TVs don’t have large amplifiers, so you’re going to need to supplement that sound with a soundbar,” said Marcus Maimone, a home theater expert at the Best Buy store in Paramus, New Jersey.

Soundbars are an all-in-one speaker system designed to project high-quality sound, whether you’re watching sports, streaming a movie or binging on your favorite shows.

Here are a few things Marcus says you need to know about soundbars.

Fewer wires, more aesthetic

That’s right, you can enhance the sound of your TV without the tangles of more cords. Soundbars also are more compact than standard sound systems, which frees up more space and provides a game-changing aesthetic.

“You can make it look like the soundbar is literally part of the TV,” Marcus said.

Easy setup

Soundbars are an easy solution that includes high-quality audio features you’d expect from a fancy home theater system packed into a compact size. Connecting that sound to your TV is as simple as linking to Bluetooth or plugging in an HDMI cable.

Where do I put them?

It’s all about placement. For optimal performance, place your speakers as close to ear-level as possible. Directly below your screen is fine, too, as long as it doesn’t block the TV sensor.

“As a general rule, you don’t want to put your speakers above the TV,” Marcus said.

Making the decision

First, you need to figure out how you’re going to use it and what best fits your home.

“It really boils down to finding a soundbar that fits your lifestyle at a price you feel comfortable with,” Marcus said.

No matter which option you choose, Marcus suggests testing out different systems before making a final decision. Ask a friend or visit your local Best Buy to hear what you’re missing out on. Once you hear TV speakers compared to a soundbar, you’ll wonder why you didn’t get one sooner.
