The Best Buy study also uncovered the following holiday shopping trends:

Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and people are expected to dish out more cash than ever for that special gift.
According to the National Retail Federation, Americans will spend an average of $172 on mom this year, up nearly $10 from last year and the most in the survey’s 12-year history. Total spending is expected to reach $21.2 billion — with almost $2 billion of that being consumer electronics.
As more consumers are looking beyond chocolates and flowers, Best Buy has a great mix of lasting gifts based on what Mom likes to do best.
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and this year Americans will spend more on gifts than ever before — $19 billion, claims the National Retail Federation.
And no shocker here: men will spend nearly twice as much on gifts as women – close to $200 on average.
