30 Jul: Best Buy reaffirms support for DACA recipients

Best Buy joined more than 80 companies Thursday in a letter to Congress urging a permanent legislative solution and path to citizenship for Dreamers, undocumented young adults who were brought to the United States as children through no fault of their own and continue to live and work here. They have been protected from deportation under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

The effort was organized by the Coalition for the American Dream, a group of business and industry leaders that support finding a permanent solution for DACA recipients.

Today’s Supreme Court decision is encouraging news for “Dreamers,” the approximately 700,000 undocumented young adults who were brought to the United States as children and are able to continue the lives they’ve always known in this country under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“Dreamers play an important role in our everyday lives as coworkers, business owners, friends and neighbors. They make an enormous, positive impact on American companies, communities and the economy, including as essential health care workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Best Buy Chief Executive Officer Corie Barry.

Best Buy has joined with more than 140 business leaders and trade associations in signing a “friend of the court” brief with the U.S. Supreme Court to show our continued support for “Dreamers.” That’s the nickname for the approximately 800,000 undocumented young adults who are allowed to live and work in the United States under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

The brief emphasizes that Dreamers are employees, business owners and neighbors who make a significant positive impact on American companies, communities and the economy.

12 Feb: Best Buy continues support for DACA recipients

Best Buy Chairman and CEO Hubert Joly signed on to a letter Monday with more than 100 business and industry leaders continuing the company’s support for “Dreamers.” They’re the approximately 800,000 undocumented young adults who are allowed to live and work in the United States under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

The letter calls for Congress “to act immediately and pass a bipartisan, permanent legislative solution to enable Dreamers who are currently living, working and contributing to our communities to continue doing so.”

Best Buy Chairman and CEO Hubert Joly signed on to a letter Friday with hundreds of business leaders calling to preserve the program that keeps undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as youth from being deported. The letter also urges legislation for a permanent solution.

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program allows 800,000 undocumented young adults and youth, known as “Dreamers,” to study and work in the United States.
