This moment in our country’s history is fraught with political and social division. There are increasingly few things we can all agree on, but one, we believe, is that the bedrock of the democracy we love is the right to a free and fair election. An election cannot be free nor fair if every eligible voter is not given a full chance to vote, or if laws exist that make it harder to do so. 

To the extent that proposed pieces of legislation are designed to make it more difficult for eligible Americans to cast a ballot, we offer our strong opposition and urge legislators to vote no.

06 Feb: Forced Labor Not Acceptable

Best Buy is committed to the International Labour Organization (ILO) Core Conventions and will not stand for any practices that run counter to the Core Conventions, including forced labor.

We source our private label products from seven countries and approximately 185 factories that employ over 165,000 workers, of which fewer than 200 are foreign migrant workers (i.e., workers who travel temporarily from their home country for employment). As an active member of the Responsible Labor Initiative, we understand that forced labor conditions are a risk in some of these regions, especially for foreign migrant and other vulnerable workers.

26 Jan: Best Buy Public Relations Intern Opening

Position Description:

Join the energetic, fast-paced external communications team at the Fortune 80 retailer as a full-time, paid intern. In this role you will work with the communications team to tell the story of Best Buy, including helping with proactive and reactive media relations, content planning and creation, media monitoring and more.

Position Duration:

40 hours per week, Monday through Friday,for approximately 6 months with potential to be extended.

Core responsibilities include:

Media Relations

  • Assist in building media relationships, pitching, prepping spokespeople and managing internal relationships 
  • Research, compile and maintain ongoing media contact lists
  • Attend media interviews and events when applicable
  • Assist in building pitch materials to showcase key campaigns and drive times

Content Creation

  • Interview employees and customers that help tell stories that support brand initiatives to be used across internal and external channels
  • Draft external communications materials for the Best Buy blog and communications team’s social media channels that support brand campaigns, key drive times and company announcements
  • Assist in writing internal communications materials for the company magazine

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Use media monitoring tools to compile and categorize media coverage
  • Field incoming media requests
  • Monitor and report on news stories and pop culture trends to identify relevant proactive media outreach opportunities

Other

  • Assist in preparing communications materials for on-campus events and activities
  • Actively participate in weekly, monthly and quarterly meetings and brainstorms within the communications department

Skills/Requirements:

  • An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or public relations preferred
  • Previous public relations internship experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and manage multiple different tasks in a collaborative and fast-paced environment
