15 May: Best Buy Provides Free Tech Classes For Kids At Home

As students face a summer of being homebound because of COVID-19, they (and their parents) are actively looking for new opportunities to learn, explore and grow.

Best Buy is here to help.

Our Geek Squad Agents have created a suite of free online courses that are designed to ignite kids’ creativity and teach them new tech skills. Inspired by our popular Geek Squad Academy summer camps, the curriculum includes topics such as smartphone photography, binary code and how to build video games and websites.

05 Jun: Best Buy employee earns 2 degrees thanks to education partnership

After graduating from high school, Dan Smith headed off to college with every intention of finishing his degree while working a part-time job at Best Buy. But soon that part-time job became something more.

“I enjoyed what I was doing at Best Buy, and I started getting the opportunity to take on more responsibility,” he says. “Getting promoted was great, but it made balancing work and school very challenging. I started thinking I’d just take a semester off, but that one semester turned into about 10 years.”

21 Jun: Found at Best Buy: new career and a dream come true

Cheri Howard had it all. A beautiful family, boundless ambition and a great job with a Nebraska police department.

She thought she would retire as the department’s commander of front-end operations and see her kids off to college. But then a merger happened, and she lost her job of 26 years.

“It was debilitating, honestly,” she said. “For a while, I felt like a fish out of water. I did not have a clear path and wondered if I was going to be able to survive it.”

10 Jun: Best Buy’s Geek Squad Academy Camps Begin Today

If learning robotics, making music and writing code sound more fun than swatting mosquitoes and singing around a fire, the camps offered by Geek Squad Academy (GSA) are where to be this summer.

No sleeping bags are required at Best Buy’s GSA camps, but students do need to pack curiosity and creativity. With hands-on access to computers, tablets, and other techy gadgets, they’re joining the more than 20,000 past attendees in learning new skills, gaining confidence and getting a head start on their futures.
