As one of the first retailers to offer shoppers plastic gifts cards 20 years ago, Best Buy led one of the hottest trends in gift-giving.

Back then, our wallet-sized plastic cards replaced cumbersome paper gift certificates.

It took a while for shoppers to embrace the concept of gift cards, but today they’re one of the most popular items for gift-givers and gift-receivers. In fact, the National Retail Federation expected total spending on the cards to reach $25.9 billion in 2015.

(NYSE: BBY) today announced revenue results for the nine weeks ended January 3, 2015, as compared to the nine weeks ended January 4, 2014, excluding revenue from the Five Star business in China. As announced on December 4, 2014, the company entered into a definitive agreement for the sale of its Five Star business in China and expects to include its results in discontinued operations beginning in Q4 FY15.

MINNEAPOLIS, November 8, 2012 – Thousands of care packages to be shipped overseas for the holiday season

WHO: As part of Best Buy’s continued support for the military, Best Buy employees at the Best Buy headquarters in Richfield, Minnesota will observe Veteran’s Day early by packing up more than 3500 holiday gifts for the troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

WHAT: The Best Buy program, Operation Patriotic Endeavor, was created in 2011 by members of Best Buy’s Military Employee Business Network as another way for employees to give back to the troops.
