08 Sep: Best Buy launches Forest Stewardship Council® certified packaging

From reducing our carbon footprint to making the products we sell and packaging they come in more sustainable, we’re committed to making a positive impact on the environment and helping our customers do the same.

Starting this month, the outer box packaging of some TVs within our own Insignia brand, both in the U.S. and Canada, is being made with sustainably sourced paper that is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Best Buy has committed to be carbon neutral across our business by 2040, and we’re taking another big step toward that goal by expanding our use of renewable energy.

We recently signed a 10-year agreement with Constellation, a leading energy company, to power 57 stores and a 600,000-square-foot distribution center with solar energy sourced from the 140-megawatt Big Star Solar project that is currently in development in Texas. Our portion of the project is expected to produce approximately 46,845 megawatt hours per year.

09 Jun: How to create a techy, eco-friendly backyard

As we enter summer, we’ll all be spending more time outside. That makes this the perfect time to create an outdoor oasis in your backyard.

Technology can enhance your outdoor space where you’ll want to relax with your friends and family all summer long. And you can do it in a way that is good for the environment, too.

“Backyards have become an extension of the home,” said Javier Davila, a Best Buy Home Expert from Laredo, Texas. “When I create a solution for a customer, it’s vital to think of the experience of outdoor entertaining.”

Best Buy - rebates

09 Jun: The ultimate guide to rebates at Best Buy

For years, Best Buy has partnered with utility companies across the country to provide rebates to our customers. With the help of the Best Buy rebate finder and the ENERGY STAR® mark, we aim to help our customers save money, use less energy and live more sustainably.

Why do utilities offer rebates?

Utility companies want their customers to use less energy. Many states have sustainability goals and require utilities to offer energy-saving programs to their customers. Reduced energy usage is also good for utility companies because the less energy people use, the fewer power plants utilities need to build (which is costly).

28 Apr: Best Buy earns first TRUE certification for zero waste

We have long been committed to making a positive impact on the planet and the communities we serve, and that journey has pushed us to continually find new ways to make our business even more sustainable.

Today, we’re proud to announce that our Reverse Logistics Center in Chino, California, has earned Best Buy’s first TRUE certification for zero waste. Over the last year, the supply chain facility was able to divert more than 99.67% of its solid waste from landfills.

TRUE (Total Resource Use and Efficiency) certification helps facilities define, pursue and achieve zero waste goals, which increases their resource efficiency, cuts their carbon footprint, and supports public health.

22 Mar: Reducing our impact on the planet and its water sources

March 22 is World Water Day, and to celebrate, we’re sharing some of Best Buy’s latest efforts to reduce our impact on the planet and its water sources.

As a company, we rely on quality freshwater for the restrooms, kitchen areas and irrigation systems at our stores, distribution centers and corporate offices. Our customers, meanwhile, rely on water for appliances like washing machines and dishwashers.

Here’s a quick look at some steps we’re taking to cut back on how much water we use.

21 Mar: How We’re Creating a More Sustainable Planet, Together

For decades, we’ve strived to create a more sustainable world for the communities we serve, because our customers and employees expect it and the planet demands it.

To do our part, we’ve set two ambitious environmental goals:

  • Reduce carbon emissions in our operations by 75% by 2030 (over 2009 baseline) and become carbon neutral by 2040.
  • Reduce carbon emissions for our customers by 20% by 2030 (over 2017 baseline), helping them save $5 billion on utility costs over the life of the ENERGY STAR products they buy.

21 Mar: Helping our customers reduce their carbon footprints

At Best Buy, we’re committed to reducing our impact on the planet. And we want to help our customers to do the same.

We know many people care about sustainability and want to use less energy at home.  So, we’re helping them reduce their carbon footprints and save money in the process.

In fact, we’ve set a goal to help our customers reduce their own carbon emissions 20% by 2030 through the use of ENERGY STAR certified products. That would also help them save more than $5 billion on their energy bills.

02 Mar: Best Buy Signs The Climate Pledge, Accelerating Sustainability Goals

Sustainability has been at the core of what we do at Best Buy for decades, and now we’re making our biggest commitment yet to positively impact the planet.

Today, we announced we have signed The Climate Pledge, a commitment to be carbon neutral across our business by 2040 — a decade faster than our previous goal of 2050.

The Climate Pledge was co-founded by Amazon and Global Optimism in 2019 to mobilize companies across multiple business sectors to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, 10 years ahead of the United Nations’ Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
