Three Things You Didn’t Know About ENERGY STAR®

Happy Energy Awareness Month! To celebrate, we’re highlighting ENERGY STAR certified products at Best Buy and giving you tips on how to save energy at home.

You know to look for the ENERGY STAR mark when shopping for appliances and electronics, but do you know how much energy certified products can actually save? Check out a few things you might not know about ENERGY STAR.

  • A standard clothes washer that’s older than 10 years costs around $180 to run every year. An ENERGY STAR certified washer can save $40 a year in operating costs. With a certified model, you’ll save $400 over 10 years! (TIP: For even more energy savings, wash your clothes in cold water.)
  • New energy-saving innovations are making dryers more efficient. In fact, ENERGY STAR certified dryers use 20 percent less energy than conventional models. One of these new innovations includes moisture sensors that can tell when clothes are dry to automatically shut off the dryer. The steam cycle is another feature that can save energy and time by eliminating wrinkles. That means no more ironing.
  • Even sound bars can be ENERGY STAR certified. They can be up to 50 percent more efficient than a conventional model because they use less energy in all modes: “sleep,” “idle” and “on” mode.

ENERGY STAR products are independently certified to save energy without sacrificing features or functionality. Look for the label on over 20 product categories at Best Buy and Bestbuy.com to save money on your energy bills and help protect our environment.
