Here’s a closer look at three ways that Teen Tech Centers are making a difference in the lives of teens across the country.
1) Building brighter futures through technology.
In an ever-evolving world, tech education is critical for success.
That’s what drew high school sophomore Anzal Musse to the Keystone Teen Tech Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. She wants to be a pediatric surgeon when she grows up and knows that technology like state-of-the-art computers and 3D printers is driving more aspects of part of health care.
“Tech is the new thing in the world, and every career is going to have to have some knowledge about tech,” she said.
She also knows that guidance from a mentor will help her learn and apply new skills to real world experiences — and she’s not alone. Meet six teens with big dreams who are using Teen Tech Centers to make their dreams reality.
2) Closing the gap in STEM.
We firmly believe that for youth to be successful, they need to have access to the technology they will encounter in the workplace. We furnish all our centers with state-of-the-art tech, so teens can get familiar with the equipment they might use in their future careers.
That technology includes high-end computers, DSLR cameras, 3-D printers, virtual reality headsets and graphic drawing tablets, along with graphic design and editing software. See five ways we’re bridging the gap in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
3) Expanding our reach.
We’re building a nationwide network of 100 Best Buy Teen Tech Centers to reach 30,000 teens from disinvested communities each year.
As part of that effort, we recently launched the L.A. Community Impact Hub that will create up to 12 new Teen Tech Centers in the Los Angeles area by 2023. It will combine the power of Best Buy Teen Tech Centers with community partners that offer services like post-secondary guidance and mental health and wellness support.
The initiative aims to equip teens for the in-demand jobs of the creative and entertainment industries by combining cutting-edge technology, skill-building and career mentorship with real-world connections and support.
